#iykyk : Long before software, there was hardware. In legal tech, there may not be another piece of technology (other than maybe a pen?) that has had longer staying power. Patented in 1891, the Bates Numbering Machine was used by lawyers to stamp a unique, consecutive page number on their discovery documents. It was used until the early 2000’s (!?!?!) when Avery labels and eventually electronic Bates numbering replaced it. A piece of history that was innovative in it’s time and continues to leave echoes of the ingenuity even today.
